Hedge Against Price Volatility With Dollar-Cost Averaging3
We make it easy to keep your portfolio balanced with this popular strategy. Through our Periodic Investment Plan (PIP) you direct us to
purchase a fixed dollar amount of a fund at fixed intervals, creating a hedge against price volatility. You purchase more shares when the price is low and fewer shares when the price is
high, creating an average cost that can often be less than the average share price. Give the order to purchase fund shares on a monthly, quarterly,
semi-annual or annual basis. Dollar-cost averaging takes the ups and downs of the market and helps turn them to your advantage.
For example: If you invest $100 at $10 per share, you receive 10 shares. If the market drops and the mutual fund price goes down to $5 per share, you will
receive 20 shares for your $100. If the market rises and the mutual fund price increases to $20 per share, you will receive 5 shares for your $100. Your
average cost is $8.57 ($300/35 shares) per share, even though the average share price was $11.67. That´s because, as the fund´s price fluctuates, you
will buy more shares when the price is low and fewer shares when the price is high.

Use the Breakpoint Wizard for Load Funds
Funds that are not part of our no-load no-transaction fee program may levy sales charges, or loads. Mutual funds progressively reduce these sales charges at different points -- "breakpoints" -- based on the amount of money invested. For the convenience of our clients who transact load funds, we have introduced a Breakpoint Wizard with four components:
- Breakpoint Evaluator : Calculates where breakpoints are met and displays what next breakpoints are for different funds based on current holdings or hypothetical orders.
- Aggregated Asset Summary: Calculates the aggregated assets at Siebert that may be used to determine the appropriate breakpoint sales charge according to the Fund Family rules for Rights of Accumulation and related accounts. A separate "Asset Details" screen breaks each Fund Family's aggregate amount down into the individual component fund amounts.
- Product Rules Lookup: Displays product rules for fund families, including details for Rights of Accumulation and Letter of Intent pricing and Reinstatement.
- Breakpoint Schedule Lookup: Displays detailed breakpoint schedules for
specific funds.
Note: If you have purchased or plan to purchase mutual funds with a front-end sales charge (load funds) that are not part of our no-load, no-transaction fee program, please review important information about mutual fund breakpoints from FINRA.
1 Fund comparisons from Barron's Online Broker Survey, March 2005. Different brokers offer different services.
2 The minimum initial investment to qualify for no transaction fee is $2,000 for IRA accounts, and $5,000 for other personal accounts unless a particular fund specifies a higher amount. Qualify for no-fee redemptions of no-load funds by maintaining a holding period of three months. Otherwise, transaction fees apply. Funds may charge expenses and/or management fees in accordance with the fund prospectus. Fund availability subject to change.
3 To benefit from dollar cost averaging, you should be financially prepared to continue your investment for a long enough period to include times when your mutual fund share prices are lower. There is no guarantee that dollar cost averaging will make you a profit and it will not protect you against losses in a declining market.
